What Is Density

What is density?

Density or specific gravity and compression are all terms with the same meaning, which we will explain below what density is.

Not only in stone wool products, but also in all materials available in nature, compression or density is a matter of discussion.

For example, the density of water is 1000 kilograms per cubic meter.

This means that if we have a cubic container with dimensions of 100 * 100 * 100 centimeters, and we fill the entire capacity of this cube with water, exactly 1000 kilograms per cubic meter of water will fill the container.

So, we filled a container with dimensions of 1 * 1 * 1 meter with 1000 kilograms of water.

Therefore, the density of water is 1000 kilograms per cubic meter.

In connection with the density of stone wool, we also mention an example: a slab of stone wool with a density of 80 kilograms per cubic meter and a thickness of 5 centimeters means that our insulation board is in dimensions of 100 * 100 * 5.

What is density

In fact, the height or thickness is 5 centimeters, and its length and width are each 100 centimeters.

If we try to fill our cube with this type of insulation, 20 boards fit inside the cube.

Calculation (20 = 5 / 100)
Therefore, every 20 square meters of stone wool board with a thickness of 5 centimeters is equivalent to one cubic meter.

Ultimately, with a simple calculation, one can conclude that every square meter of stone wool board with a thickness of 5 centimeters and a density of 80 kilograms per cubic meter weighs 4 kilograms.

Calculation (6 = 1 * 20 / 120)
However, in another example, suppose we have a piece of stone wool with a thickness of 10 centimeters and dimensions of 120 * 60 centimeters. We weighed this insulation, and its weight is 6.7 kilograms.

But we do not know its density and have to calculate it.

The area of our insulation board in square meters is 2.1 * 6.0 square meters, which results in 72.0 square meters.

72.0 square meters has a weight of 6.7 kilograms. According to a simple proportion, how much weight does 10 square meters have?

Calculation (105 = 1 * 7.6 / 0.72)

So, we conclude that the density of the insulation is 105 kilograms per cubic meter.
